Frank, The HEI unit requires full voltage. The stock coil ran on 9V delivered through the ballast resistor. The voltage may be even lower with the current the HEI draws. Also, check the advance at idle and at higher rpm. Max advance should be 32-36 degrees all in by 2500 rpm for best performance. Too much advance can cause backfire. Bob |
