I would love to hear any ideas. A while ago I thought I heard of someone
trying to fit Fox or SN95 Mustang brake bits to a Tiger.
Phillip,
I answer to your question, I have attached photos to you of a 2002 Mustang
Cobra caliper attached to a Tiger spindle. This project is nearly done but I
have not finished and installed it yet. I will work on it again next winter. I
expect a 38% increase in braking torque at the same line pressure. It is
probably overkill but it's one of those projects I do just because it's there.
Here are the specs.
The new caliper is a Mustang Cobra, aluminum two cylinder slider with 25 %
more piston area and is .25 lb lighter than the Tiger caliper. The Mustang
Cobra
caliper is far superior and lighter than the regular Mustang single cylinder
caliper.
The rotor is machined from a 1994 Thunderbird vented 10 inch X 1 inch rotor
that is bolted to a re-machined Tiger center section, or hat. The effective
braking radius increase is 11%. There is an estimated 2 lb increase in weight
over the original Tiger rotor.
The spindle is a slightly modified Tiger spindle. No strength reducing
welding was required.
There is an adaptor weldment required to attach the caliper to the spindle.
The stock steering arm bolts to the spindle in the stock position. The rotor
is about an inch outboard from the stock position so the ball joint could be
moved out with a different arm to improve the Ackerman.
No, this assembly won't fit inside a 13 inch wheel.
I know only Phillip will get the photos but if any one else is interested I
will send them to you.
John Logan
