Charlie,
Probably the oil pump shaft is not engaging the bottom of the distributor
gear.
You could try turning the oil pump a little bit at a time, about 15 degrees
or so, or what I typically do, is to get the distributor in as far as it
will go, then turn the crankshaft by hand while pressing down on the
distributor. When the oil pump shaft lines up with the distributor gear it
should drop in trhe rest of the way.

Happy Motoring!

Tigers,
I know this has come up before, but I can't get the distributor to go in
the
last quarter inch. Everything is lined up correctly, and I've had it out
three or four times before and it has always gone back in with no trouble.
The
oil pump drive is still down there, but it is wobbling in the hole. Is
there an easy answer to how to get the distributor back in?

Charlie
