I will venture a guess. It is very possible that these fender
wells are a common parts to other Rootes vehicles and not just the Alpine.
You would need to see all the Rootes vehicles to determine this.

Subject: Saturday night puzzler
Sunbeam specialists,
I pulled the motor to fix a pesky leak and have been cleaning up things I
did not finish last time (last century). In the passenger fender well
behind the strut brace and lower are two large 'dents'. I was planning to
fix these dents but this week I stopped by Ricks SS to buy some parts and
noticed his car has the identical dents. Wow! good thing I didn't 'fix'
that I think. Then I walk over to Reisentz Restorations and all of his
Tigers have the same dents. Even an Alpine outside has the same dents but
no items are mounted near them to suggest what they are for. Neither Rick
or Paul knew what these dents are for. So my puzzler tonight is, Does
anyone know what these were for? They don't seem to serve any function on
our Tigers or Alpines.
