Hello All:
Back in '65 the Rootes factory took the Tiger rallying, as some will
recall, and with notable, success it should be added. One of the things
they did was to hang a few driving lights on the beast ADU 312B). If you
want to see what it looked like, see the "Sunbeam Alpine and Tiger Gold
Portfolio" from Brooklands Books, page 100. Pretty ugly, eh! There are
some other pics of other cars with driving lights in the same
volume. Driving lights for the Tiger are always going to look like someone
hung them on after the fact, so it's hard to imagine them looking really
nice, but some are better than others. Some may recall the Tiger belonging
to the late Wally Swift, which had a set of Lucas lights mounted under the
bumper which, to my eye, looked pretty good. Living on the coast of Maine,
as I do, we often encounter fog, so I thought it might be a good idea to
have a little more light available, but I didn't want to be too obtrusive
about it. With the advent of some of the newer (smaller) auxiliary lights,
I was able to find a set that fit up under the bumper of my car and are not
very noticeable. Nevertheless, they do provide some extra light when
needed. I made a pair of brackets out of steel and mounted them with the
bumper bolts to the frame of the car and then mounted the lights on
them. Pulled power for them off the parking light circuit through a relay
and switch so that they go off when you turn off the headlights/parking
lights. If anyone would like a pic of my car's setup, please email me.
Tod
