I can certainly understand the dilemma on wheels and tires. I kept my car
as stock looking as possible for a long time (15 years?). This was partly
to do with thrift (I'm a cheap so and so), partly for 'stealth' purposes.
Two years ago after an engine transplant I decided bigger tires were
required. After some hand wringing I went with 16" Panasports, even though
I dreaded looking like some kid in a "tricked out" Honda Civic.
WOW, what a difference; it transformed the look of the car. Everyone
prefers the appearance, from my Mother to my 8 year old niece. It doesn't
look at all "boy racer", just sporty. Tires are easy to find, and at
relatively cheap prices. They stick better at my (rare) forays to the
track, but more importantly they bring a smile to my face when I see my
car. Will the extra traction be worth the money, probably not, but it was
certainly money well spent for me.
