According to John Clegg, a Rootes Engineer who worked on the
Alpine engine development and on early Tiger prototypes before
moving to Central Indiana, Rootes would loan prototype cars to
employees for use over weekends for their comments and
evaluations. Several Tigers came back with notes that the
engine ran rough. The engineers then realized that the
employees were trying to shift the V8 at 6000+ RPM just like
the Alpine 4. Ouch.
