Kirt, John has good advise. I have a 90 Mustang 5.0L and did some thing
differently.
I used a GM one wire alternator, and my red ignition still acts as a low
charge indicator. Easy hook up, and Theo Smit helped me through this.
Thanks again Theo.
I used a Ford stamped steel, in chrome from JC Whitney bracket and
adjusted it with a rubber mallet for correct alignment, and it is spot
on. Very strong.
I used a billet aluminum crank 4 bolt pulley from March, and this sets
up everything else, but it give max clearance for the R&P.
For the water pump, I used an Ford alum unit that is available from
McParts, but the hub has to be pulled off, reversed and pressed on, to
align. Not hard it you have puller/pressing equipment. I used a cheap
puller and a vice, after disassembly of pump. No big deal, and pump has
roller bearings, and closed impeller.
I did not want to change the oil dip stick, including the timing cover,
so I kept the left side stick, but used a Lokar flex dip stick unit.
Fits nicely, and made for later Ford engines. Accurate.
John was my motivate, and an email help when I did my 5.0L engine, and
now it looks simple, but at the time very daunting.
Thanks again John.
Larry
PS - I believe it is proper to thank those who respond to your request
for info/comments. Most people do to me, some don't, and they are on
the list of One Way People. Not hard to say Thank You.
