Steering wheel resto

Its been a quiet week on the Tiger list, my hometown.............

But I digress.


The steering wheel in my Tiger needs some TLC.
The original coating is peeling off in several locations and I have one
crack in the wood.

What is the best finish to use in redoing this?
Any tips on closing up the crack and making it invisible?
