Chris,
I can only answer part of your question. IF there is a Dana 44 in that
mail truck the bolt holes that the attach bolts go through are smaller
than the 2.88 bolts/ring gear threads. That's O.K. as long as you have
the machined (note I didn't say hand drilled) out to fit the original
bolts. The Jag Mk II also uses the Dana 44, made by Dana's Salisbury
plant in England. Salisbury also makes the Tiger rear axles.
If you ever decide to go to an American Ford ratio, a step bolt is
available to fill the larger hole.
With a lower than stock first gear, as in a wide ratio 4 spd. top
loader, or a T-5, you will find the 2.88's just fine.
