A healthy backfire will do wonders to clear out that
nuisance silencer material in the mufflers and pipes.
Didn't Get Smart Tiger shoot flames on demand from
the pipes.
Sounds like you are really running rich. Are the
inside of the tail pipes sooty black? Idle the engine
and remove the air cleaner. Have a friend turn off
the car and look into the carb. Dribbling gas indicates
you have a bad needle seat. BE CAREFUL a
backfire through the carb can do more than singe
your eyebrows. Use a flashlight to look in the carb.
Lighters and matches are not recommended here.
Check the timing and then use a vacuum gauge to
set the idle mixture. No gauge? Run each screw in
until the engine begins to run rough indicating a too
rich mixture. Then back out until it smoothes out.
Then back in 1/4 turn. Best too rich then lean as
burnt valves are expensive to replace.
Inquiring minds want to know the fix. Keep us advised.
