Steve, 10.0:1 is not a problem at all, with aluminum heads. I've run 10.5:1 on premium pump gas in my old road race engine, and 7.8:1 with 12 psi (gauge) boost, non-intercooled, in a turbocharged street engine. Never heard one ping out of either one, and the turbo engine would have disintegrated in a hurry if it had ever got into the detonation zone - I was running stock cast pistons.
