Two interesting items in Hot Rod Magazine Dec 2001;
1 Best Street Freak Ed Gira, Orange Ca, 1959 Hillman Husky, tube
frame rails, 392 Hemi engine, color, bright orange and only the hint of a
blower scoop in the hood. I'm sure there are other mods but it looks very
clean.
2 "Octane Shootout" This is a short article about running a 360
engine w/ 10.4:1 compression on a dyno to find max hp and torque with
several octane fuels.
87 octane unleaded 396 hp @ 36 deg timing / 404.7 lb-ft
@ 31 deg
87 with 104+ octane booster 397.9 @ 36 deg timing / 406.8 @ 31
deg
91 unleaded 402.1 @ 36 deg timing / 409.4 @ 36
deg
91 w/ 104+ 399.8 @ 38 deg timing / 404.4 @ 34
deg
100 unleaded 403.5 @ 36 deg timing / 407.8 @ 34
deg
114 leaded 408.3 @ 31 deg timing / 414.4 @ 31
deg
Each test ran timing from 31 deg to max of 40 deg to find peak hp
and peak torque. Interesting that 104+ octane boost works well with low
octane fuel but produced less hp with higher octane fuel and that 114
octane fuel needed less timing to get max hp and max torque. Dyno tests
were run at Superior Automotive Anaheim Ca.
