soft top

I am installing a new soft top and need help with two straps that I got from
Rick, They go from the well for the top when it is down and have a wire hook
that looks like it attaches to the alum. pease that holds the back of the
soft top. they also have a snap on the end. I don't keow which side is the
top. should the hook point up or dowm?
