I'm not trying to be nasty, but I think there's an incomprehensible, to me,
elitism in that statement. I got stuck with an old Jag some time back, lots
of wood in it -- dash, surrounds for ALL the windows, etc. I got the idea
that I was going to make money on the car and set out to 'do' the wood. And I
did it right; read, observed, good materials, time for a learning curve, eons
of actual hands on (still have steel wool in my fingers). In the end, to be
honest, it was good, very good. Someone who knew little about Jags might have
believed it factory. But it wasn't even close. Soon thereafter, I got a
chance to tour Randy's shop at Prestige and to see and hear what a REAL
professional job was all about. On the way home, I thought about the various
'do it yourself' dashes I'd seen at many TU's, from pathetic hacksaw carpentry
through 'pretty darn good for a high school woodshop project'. When I got
home, I sent Randy a check, never been sorry. Your car came from Rootes with
a very nice dash because it was done in quantity by professionals. You can
still get that. It all depends on what you're looking for.

Because the world of car nuts is made of two types.
Do it yourselfers, and people who write checks.
