Al,
The label for this oil says "Castrol Syntec The Active Lubricant SAE 5W-50
Full Synthetic Motor Oil". It is priced accordingly. Castrol also sells a
synthetic "blend" under the name "Syntec". It is available in 5W-30 and
20W-50, but not 5W-50. I don't think anything but a full synthetic would
have this wide a viscosity index.
The following show Syntec as a "full synthetic":

Here's the Syntec "blend" site. Note the word "Blend" prominently displayed
on the label:

I note that, following a challenge by Mobil, Castrol has agreed to stop its
claims of "superior molecular bonding", but not its claim to be a synthetic.

Here's another good article on motor oil. Notice the admonition not to use
additives.

Bob & Mike---
Castrol "Syntex" has synthetic additives, but is not considered a synthetic
oil
as is Mobil 1, Amsoil, or Redline. Although they have had no trouble
adopting
synthetic pricing strategies.
