Rob,

It occurs to me that you may be seeing the tire bead sliding towards the
center of the rim from side forces. In our years the stock steel wheels,
as well as the after-market wheels by LAT and others, did not have the
later mandated safety bead to prevent this from occurring at high side
loads and/or low tire pressure.

A thought to consider.
