Chris,
I think most of the hardware was originally painted gloss, but over 30
years it starts to appear satin black. I usually respray with satin
black because it looks better than gloss black. One point I would like
to make on aerosol spray paints, I have tried Eastwood's satin black,
and didn't like the coverage. Pretty bad I thought. I actually found
Plasticoat satin black, from Pep Boys a surprisingly good paint. Another
product that I have tried and was not impressed with is POR-15. For
about the same price, I can buy PPG's DPLF-90 (black) epoxy primer and
brush it on over metal and as well as spray it on the outer body sheet
metal. The POR-15 takes a considerable time to dry, and time is money.
