I did not see the original post.  I have had a few experiences trying to
take these off and then put them back on.  I have to admit they were less
than successful.  The rails were very hard to keep from denting both in
taking them off and trying to put them back on.  Also, the effort to put
them one was HUGE.  If you have to take them off, you will certainly have
to scrape off all the paint where they attach - which of course risks
scratching the surrounding paint that you don't have to take off and won't
be covered up.  I strongly suggest therefore, as I ultimately did on my
last hard top, LEAVE THE DANG THINGS ON THERE.  Let your paint guy tape
over them.  It's very easy to clean off any overspray.  It's next to
impossible to fix dents to the rails.

P.S.  Should anyone disagree with me and have a better suggestion on how to
do it, by all means let me know!!!!!!
