I have been reading the list for about 6 months now and looking for a Tiger
for about 2 years. I bought Dan Eiland's car a few weeks ago. It is a
beautiful MkIA from El Paso (Hi Dan). The car has a strange charging
problem that I hope someone has seen before. The car still has a generator.
The ammeter runs in the negative upon startup, and the red dash light comes
on, it goes more negative (-15) when I put the lights on. But if I rev the
engine to 3500rpm the ammeter jumps to a positive reading and the red light
goes out. The funny thing is that it will stay this way (a positive
reading)for the rest of the drive regardless of engine speed. But if I turn
the car off it will run in the negative the next time I start it up until I
get the chance to rev it to 3500. This happens without fail every time I
start the car. I believe the ammeter is working properly because the
headlights are very weak untill I hit the 3500 mark for the first time,
then they pop on like someone threw a switch.
I really am a newbie on such matters so any ideas would be greatly
appreciated.
