You're got to bring him the pistons and rods too. He has to make all the
pistons
weigh within 5 grams of each other, make the rods weigh the same as each other,
and use these weights to add to the crankshaft journals to balance it correctly.
He is right, and you should do this.
302's are notorious about the piston choices. The original design failed often,
in the skirt area, when the loads were too high at BDC, due to the increase
stroke
and bad piston design.
The cure was to go to a new TRW forged design. By now there are probably lots
of
other high quality pistons made with these improvements, just make sure yours
are,
or you'll be replacing that engine.
Watch that only the highest quality Felpro's gaskets are used. If you have
aluminum heads, be especially cautious about the head gasket choice, as these
are
known to have sealing problems.
