Mike,

You weren't "wrong", as some race committees found the local "Factory Production
line", although it really existed, to be not credible.  And you are also correct
that owners could buy these parts from dealers and bolt them on.  But then, so 
can
Corvette owners buy all the parts they would like.  I am sure that the "matching
serial number" Corvette crowd would not approve.
