Peter,
Your questions touch on some sensitive issues to Tiger owners so, as Bette
Davis said: "Hang on, it's going to be a bumpy ride!"
I looked up your car in The Book of Norman and the only information there -
not much - is taken from the Jensen ledgers. What more can you tell us
about the car and its history? Do you have the old registration (chassis
number) plate and what about the JAL tag? The chassis plate should be
attached with rivets - hopefully the original rivets as you will soon learn
the importance of I'm sure. The JAL tag is fastened with sheet metal screws
and can be removed and replaced. This was affixed to the car before it was
painted, so was originally painted the color of the car with only primer
underneath.
The last item is the "spec" plate, which is also attached with rivets.
Reproductions of this item are available through Sunbeam Specialties, and
perhaps elsewhere. No one has ever said anything I'm aware of about the
importance of this being original, or attached with original rivets. On the
other hand, I'm not aware of any "public" sale of the chassis number
plates, which would have to be done to order, of course, or leave it to you
to use a punch set to enter the information.
One other question: Have you already registered the car and in what state?
If you've gotten it registered, then you have gotten past one important hurdle.
Welcome to the Hood (or is it Bonnet?), and let the hazing begin.
Bob
