Bob,

He is right about timing tapes. The only ones I've
found for the Ford were made by Mr. Gasket.
Everybody carries them for the Chevvy, and they are
different lengths.

I think the tape length formula he is looking for is
"circumference (length without overlap) = pi times
the diameter of the balancer.

Pi, bye the bye, was legislated in Tennessee to be
an even "3", cause it made calculating easier.
Don't go into any of their State Buildings. {9->

I am sure your use of the crank-back timing light,
which only demands that TDC be correct, seems to
validate your tape, if not clear up your mysterious
performance. I am told, on good authority, that
your car really "scoots", so it can't be too bad.

Many have been fooled by the markings on the
distributor advance limit plate markings, which are
mostly stamped "10 degrees", or just "10". These
are distributor degrees, and are twice that for
crankshaft degrees. 10 is 20 degrees advance at the
crank. This might cause some to over advance the
static an additional 10 degrees to "compensate" for
the stock set-up.
