Dan,
Thanks for clearing that up. I interpreted your original post (incorrectly) to
mean, "I removed the ballast resistor and the spark tester showed it still
worked so I left it off", and I'm glad to see I was wrong. When it comes to
ignition systems there are way too many people out there that are convinced more
is better in all cases, and I was trying to caution against that.
