Hi Jim,
You could try silicone (RTV sealant), but that might take a long time to dry (a
few hours) since it has to evaporate the acetic acid. Also, the removability is
questionable, but probably better than most of the alternatives (like contact
cement). You might also try acoustic sealer (the stuff that never dries) but
you'll never install the rubber part without getting the sealer all over the
place, and the only thing that sort of cleans it up is lacquer thinner or
something like that.
I fitted the softop header seal (from SS) a few months ago, and I found that the
groove held the rubber part reasonably well. I used a screw through the rubber
at each end of the header (it doesn't interfere with the windshield frame) to
keep the seal in place. The trick with fitting the seal was to fit the tab into
one side of the groove, and then to compress the seal until you can fit the
other side of the tab into the other side of the groove.
