A friend at work brought in a book I hadn't seen before. "BOSS WHEELS
- End of the Supercar Era" by Robert C. Bowden. Tab Books 1979. Covers
all makes of hot cars from the 60's and early 70's. Chapter 11 is
titled "Shelby's Ford Corrals". A one sentence mention of the Tiger on
p. 92. On page 96 and 97 are three pictures of a white Tiger. The
third picture is of the engine compartment and the caption says "Lookee
what's tucked under that little Sunbeam hood. A Ford V-8. This thing
would leave coast-to-coast rubber if a driver didn't lift his foot."
Not my car. Read my lips, "wheel hop". Big time. No macho burnouts
for me. Don't even think about getting on it in a right hand turn. I
can do a pretty good job of recreating that scene in the Book Of Norman
of the Tiger pulling away from the curb leaving this hyphenated patch on
the pavement behind the right rear tire.
So, I'm at ground zero on this one. All the bushings in the back are
original and look pretty much shot. Weld-on traction masters with shot
bushings. Ditto for the panhard rod.
What is the recommendation on bushings; stock or newer tech polyurethane
ones? If newer tech stuff then where do you get them?
Should I just forget the weld-on traction masters and move on to the
bolt-on ones?
While I have it all apart, anything special I should do with the
stock/original springs?
Am going to have a posi installed locally and have the rear diff checked
out while I'm at it.
