I know we all all make fun, rightfully, of our Lucas induced electrical
problems. But, I've wasted the better part of the past weekend trying to
find out why the *&*^! my '94 Jetta's AC compressor is refusing to kick
on. After having the refrigerant level checked and cofirmed as OK, and
hot wiring the compresor clutch so that it kicked on, (thanks Beau!) I
dove into the Bentley manual and made some crazy discoveries!
You think that LBC wiring diagrams are a rats nest to decode, wait till
you look at some 90's cars!
Next, it became very obvious that what was in the manual- an A/C relay,
and a low temp cutoff switch, didn't exist on the car! Something's
telling the compressor not to kick on, and I'll be dammed if I can nail
it down. If any of you lister own a A3 Jetta/Golf and have run into
this, e-mail me before I go nuts and pay the dealer to repeat what I
just did.
So next time the Prince of Darkness leaves you wishing you had a more
modern electrical system- be forwarned! New cars may require less
attention, but when they do break, it's a microprocessor/ relay laden
electrical hell!
