Larry,
Glad you asked. I have significant experience in keeping falling leaves out of
automotive innards. Being from Southern California, the
terms "Winter" and "Fall" are words we look up in a dictionary to try to
understand their meaning. I read that "fall" means the tree leaves
loose their color and fall from the tree. I remember that happening here, once,
but it was something called Dutch Elm Disease. Didn't know
the Dutch were using biological warfare against elm trees.
On the the protective measures. First, the concept is simple. You hermetically
seal the entire engine compartment to prevent foreign objects
from gaining access. This involves the extension of existing Tiger
technologies. First, the ubiquitous horn extender-air dam. Extend the
dam to completely cover the air intake across the entire entry, including the
valance. Nest, run some 0.030, or thicker, aluminum sheeting
from the lower valance lip straight back to the firewall. All cutouts to avoid
penetrating objects, like pans, suspension components, exhaust
pipes, hydraulic lines, etc, must pass through AN style bulkhead mounts
available at Earl's supply. Last. WEld all aluminum sheet to the
steel chassis along all junctures. This last part is difficult, but I'm sure
you'll find a way. Last item. Weld the hood shut.
As an alternate, you might consider paving your drive, and not parking near the
tree.
