Lannie,

Th "bouncing needle" is a typical sign of a bad inner core, or a bad cable
housing of the original Tiger plastic sheath design. Ford uses steel wound
outer sheaths.

The calibration can only be changed a little with the gears. And there is only
one Ford gear with less teeth than stock. Have you tested the calibration?
Mark off a distance of 52.8 feet. Disconnect the cable and put a piece of
masking tape on the cable end as a "flag".

Push, or move slowly, between the two marks. Have someone help as you need to
nkow exactly when you have gone the distance, and how many turns the cable has
made (even fractions of a turn). There are supposed to be 980 turns every mile,
or 9.8 turns in the short distance. If this is correct, then it isn't your
tranny gear, it's the speedo. They lose magnetism over the years, and need to
be repaired. If there are mechanical problems the cost get's greater. There
are Eastern, Western, and South Western experst in these instruments, and they
can rebuild the whole thing.
