Bloody hell.  I'm an attorney.  I represent body shops and used car
dealers.  The local state cop who controls the inspection stations used to
work for me in the Army Reserve.

No, this is NOT the law in Virginia or anywhere else, I would guess,
outside of the Left Coast.

ID tags are regularly removed in the course of body repairs, and no
problem, so long as the original tags are put back on when the repairs are
completed.  Body shops here do it all the time.

You guys in Zaneyland ought to bring your vehicles East for overhaul.
