To all:
My associate Jan Harde called me last evening with information about the
obvious conversion Tiger he had just surveyed for one of our customers.
After a lengthy discussion we decided this information should, no must, be
shared with other Tiger owners to alert them to the confusion and
embarassment that purchasing an "Alger" would cause. Jan posted the message
you all read this morning.
Well, as you can tell, the goose poop hit the fan. Most responses have been
positive and responsible and most of us agree that there is a need to pass
along such information.
However, one Tiger restorer who used to have a shop in Southern California
and now works on cars in the Bay Area, seems quite insensed that Mr. Harde
would post any information on this particular car. Is it possible he knows
more about it than he states? Who knows...
But he does viciously attach the good efforts of Tiger Technologies,
claiming erroneously that we have contacted him with erroneous information
on other conversions. Not true. In fact, neither of us would rely on his
expertise in such an area. And frankly, we have better things to do with our
time. A far better source is Norm Miller who responded quickly and
precisely, noting not only the serial number of the vehicle in question, but
the owner as well.
The bottom line is, folks, that this squabble wouldn't exist in any other
club. Jan's right: the Shelby Club would ride someone trying to pass off a
phony car out of town on a rail.
Hey, this "Alger" is reportedly damn nice looking. Probably worth $15,000 or
so to someone who wants a driver. Or perhaps that Bay Area restorer might
want to pick it up as a "parts" car.
