Jim,
I think something got inverted in our calculation. The effective ratio (for
5th gear) would be 2.88*.65=1.96 which would mean at 3000 rpm, it should be
running in the neighborhood of 117 mph (assuming normal tire size). I'm sure
this what you meant.
