Well the $125 hardtop is finally on the car. When I removed the
dried out rubber trim, I discovered some surface rust around the
edges under almost all of the trim. I wire brushed and sanded
and then applied a coat of POR-15. Installing the trim was a
bit of a pain, but no glue was needed. The head liner looks
original, but has some tears and dirt that looks like its there
to stay. Has anyone bought one of the new headliners available?
What are they like. The furflex piping is also torn up pretty
bad. Tom was out of it though, and I didn't see it in Curt's
catelog. I didn't like what Rick had a few years ago. It looked
too slick. Does anyone know of a source for piping that would
have different finishes available. That stuff aside, the top is
on the car and I love it. Since my wife is home on maternity
leave, I've been driving the Alpine to work. (She won't ride to
work in it because of the exhaust smell. I'm hoping the new PVC
valve takes care of that, but that's another story.)
Anyway, I can't keep the
top down, because I'd get to work looking like Bozo. With the
soft top up, the car gets hot, really hot. The circulation with
the hard top is much better.
