Here is a re-post of a write-up from several month ago that may be
appropriate for the question.
Last week someone on the net was addressing an issue of changing oil pans
and was concerned about the stick reading correctly. I just went through a
similar situation and thought I would post my experiences for what they're
worth. I was forced to replace a badly mangled dipstick and tube on my
tiger. The parts man at the Ford house cross referenced the numbers
C5AZ-6750-G (dipstick @ $5.97) and C5AZ-6754-A (tube @ $7.95) as replacement

parts. The dipstick is 18 Inches from the stop on the stick to the middle
dot (top dot marked as full, bottom as add ). The tube is 10-3/16 Inches
from the top to the bottom of the stop resting against the housing. This
would imply that the distance from the outside of the housing to the top of
the oil would be 7-13/16 in order to hit the middle dot - just by pushing
the numbers. However, with 5 quarts of oil added to a new engine and priming

a new full size filter with a electric drill through the distributor hole,
the oil level came all the way up to the top dot (full) after installation.
It may not be exact but I don't think I will worry about it as long as it
stays between the top dots.
