Item Subject: start-up
Instead of trying to control the spark after creating it, why not kill it before
it starts? Pull the single white wire off the ballast resistor (on stock
systems), and there's no power to the points or coil.

remember at initial firing after rebuild/storage,etc that if you will be
pulling the coil wire to disable the ignition to crank the car in order to
prime the oiling system, that the coil wire should be grounded! not only can
a wandering spark light off the gas from your hemorraghing carburetor, but
some of your elec devices you may have can be adversely affected by voltage
spikes.
