I recently bought a set of wheels based on the recommendation of a couple of
fellow Tiger owners. They are Porche 924 wheels from the early 80's (I
think). They are anodized aluminum 14" with an 8 spoke pattern. Salvage yard
prices vary, but are in the $25 -$35 range. The wheels have the correct lug
pattern, but have to be machined for center hub clearance (small amount) as
well as to accept standard lugs. The Porche lugs have a hemispherical end
that fits into the wheel and they use a 12-1.5 thread. The Tiger is a
7/16-20 thread. The shop that I used machined a counter-bore that has a
press in steel cone for centering and matches the 7/16 studs. They charged
me $30 a wheel to do everything. If you want them polished, the price can go
through the ceiling, depending who does them. You can easily spend $75-$100
a wheel for just polishing ( of course they look like a piece of jewelry
when they are finished). So depending on how much money you want to spend,
you can get just what you want. Chrome steel wheels can be purchased for
around $40 each.
I put 195/60HR-14 tires on with no problems. I wanted a set of 215/50 but
could not find any at a reasonable price. A 215/60HR-14 will just rub a
little on the valence when run against the lock.
