If anyone was pissed off about changes I wanted in order to be competitive
in racing, they were smart enough to keep it to themselves.
;)
Every one of my 5 Sprite racecars were race cars before I bought them. so..
"f" 'em.
As far as Greg goes.some of his improvements look like hacks to me, but, as
I said. it's his to hack. He does come off on the list as a bit arrogant or
"know it all".which , no doubt is the engineer in him talkin'.
Donald didn't design anything. Geoff did. I knew Geoff, and Greg is no
Geoff. Roger Menadue built the prototypes. I knew him too. ;)
Here's the list you're missing.

Bingo!!!! That is exactly right!!! What Greg is doing to his certainly is
not my kind of Sprite, but it is HIS car, and that's that as far as I'm
concerned. But, damn, I have to admire his knowledge of a car he has had
for only a few months. Of course, a lot of that I guess comes with being an
automotive engineer.
I don't know Greg personally,
I have exchanged e-mails with him, and he has been a great help to a
dumbkopf like me. I did go up to his house about 40-50 miles away to see
what he was doing, and he came down to my house when I gave him a steel
bonnet and some other parts he needed.
Funny, but I went up there because he was the only other person I knew in
Southern California with a Sprite. Then, just last night I learned Steve
Jors lives about 10 miles from me, and we had a long Sprite talk last night.
He is going to be doing a restoration of his Frogeye, and hopefully I will
be able to help him out with my collection of spare parts (I go back to the
days when they were just not available commercially, and began haunting
junkyards, and even bought a junker to get them.) I also learned that Mike
Rivers lives nearby, so hopefully the four of us can get together for a spit
'n' lie session..
but I have seen him, fairly, or unfairly, in the center of the maelstrom on
a number of subjects.
I have seen a few snide comments made that seem aimed at his vocally telling
folks of the modifications he is making. I know you remember some of the
invectives that were hurled around 8-9 years ago at people who made no bones
about their modifications. I suspect that some people are either 1) purists
who cannot stand anything Donald did not design, or 2) are jealous of those
such as Greg who have an incredible amount of inventive knowledge about
cars. I am just envious as hell! (I know that like me you would have
lusted after his "pure" restoration of a 100-4, an Isetta, and a
Messerschmitt! They are beautiful).
You know, if my senior memory isn't fading, I seem to remember some people
being pissed off at you because you dared make changes you wanted in order
to be competitive in racing!
Incidently, I could never find any response he made to your "panties" post.
Is there a board/group that I have missed that would be of value/interest to
me. The ones I know of are:
Spridgets@autox.team.net
midgetsprite@yahoogroups.com
bugeye@yahoogroups.com
Austin_Healey_Sprite@yahoo.groups.com
Well, we are watching my two and a half year old grandson, and his year-old
sister. He is clammering for my attention, and Pam wants help with Nichole!
So, I am off.... (no comments, please!)
