There is an assumption that no-back up exists of the data on the hard drive?

Everything on this HDD can be replaced. I was really hoping to fix it
though so I wouldn't have to reload everything again... It is a spare
computer that usually doesn't have much data on it to lose. I use a
different computer for the serious stuff and back it up to a 2nd HDD
and a flashdrive. I make as many as 5 backups when I have really
important data...
It appears to be the dreaded google redirect virus which is a rootkit
bastard. Probably just change the HDD and reload everything! Then I'll
cherry pick everything off of it and format it again.
Thanks for all of your help and insights.
