It is a reverse spiral cut into the rear of the crank which in essence is
revolving in the opposite direction as the normal rotation of the motor so
as to stop the oil from exiting the back of the motor. My explanation is
quite simplified as I am sure others will point out :) Motor is at the
machine shop or I would provide pics.
