Terrible news. I've admired Sir Stirling since I first got interested in
sports cars at around the age of ten. I remember clearly the reports of his
horrific accident at Goodwood in 1962 I had a brief encounter with him once
at Lime Rock when we passed near the timing stand I caught his eye and we
nodded at each other. I was too star struck to even say hello. I'm heading
to Florida this week and am going to spend Sunday at the Amelia Island
Concours, where Sir Stirling was to be honored. I had hoped to say hello this
time, at least. Very disappointing. Best wishes for a speedy reovery.

Apparently the interlock on the door of the elevator in his house
malfunctioned and he walked into an open shaft.
This is a highly trained driver on a closed course; Don't try this at home!
