This lil' ol' lady has grandchildren in college, and I'm willing to
drive my Midget to the east coast if that's what you all decide. My
navigator and assistant mechanic has four legs. These cars were meant
to be driven. A long distance convoy can be great fun, and a good
source of both moral and mechanical assistance. Most folks on this list
can diagnose and fix any problems with little more than duct tape and a
hammer.
For those of you who have never driven out west, there is a ton of
mountain man history in Wyoming, including Fort Jim Bridger and many
other sites that are very close to the Interstate. Little America is the
only truck stop in the world with its own Zip Code. I don't recommend it
for food or lodging, as I feel it is over priced, but it is definitely
worth a stop to see the gift shop. Wendover, UT has a museum dedicated
to the bombers that dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Just
west of Wendover you will see Pilot Peak, where fires were lit to guide
wagon trains across the salt flats. For anyone willing to do a bit of
climbing, you can see where the wagons were hoisted up the mountains.
