Biff,
Yes, I had forgotten about that proposed date change. And you are
right; it sure cost them a lot of vendors.
Re: PA Dept. of Revenue. Not so much. There was an "urban myth"
circulated several years ago, saying the same thing. It was found to be
totally baseless, as I suspect it will be, this time around. However,
"professional" vendors (those who make their living selling old car
parts, tools & restoration supplies) are and have been required to
collect the PA 6% sales tax for the past several years.
Of greater concern, to those planning to attend this year, should be the
latest attempt by the PA State Police to disguise an illegal "quota
system" for traffic citations as "Operation Smooth Operator". The only
smooth operator is our "teamster thug" governor, Fast Eddie Rendell, who
needs more revenue to augment the (approximately) $265,000,000 revenue
surplus the state is experiencing. So, in addition to the Carlisle
cop's speed traps (primarily on route 11, between downtown and the
Turnpike), you need to be on the lookout for PA State Troopers acting as
rolling tax collectors.
The good news is that local police depts., in PA, are not permitted to
use radar, and the state cops do not use "moving radar" (in other words,
they only use radar when they are parked alongside the road, or, for
example, sitting on an overpass.

Subject: Re: [Spridgets] Car Show, Now Carlisle
The biggest blow to the Carlisle Sports and Import show was Carlisle
Productions themselves. A few years back they said they were going to
move
the date of the show and give the weekend in May to the boom box crowd.
A
petition was taken of/by the vendors to keep it as it was and give the
boom
box people another date. Carlisle Productions waited until late Sunday
afternoon to "announce" that the Sports and Import/kitcar schedule would
not
be changed. By the time they made their announcement most of the vendors
had
left! The next year fewer vendors were there and this trend has
continued.
Now the state of Pa. has stepped in and decreed that the hobby vendors
at
Carlisle have to have a Pa. sales tax permit in order to sell any goods.
This will probably kill the hobby vendor
attendance....................................
