The oil still looked pretty clean when it came and there was some metal
particles that drained out with the oil. The sump plug, which is magnetic,
had really fine metal sludge on it that wiped off. In fact the oil looked a
whole lot better than the old that came out of the old engine before I pulled
it.
I agree with the others who say to change the filter now. Also, you can send a
sample of the oil to a lab to be analyzed as to it's metallic contents. A
friend of mine runs a high performance boat with twin supercharged 502s. He
sends a sample to the lab at every oil change for analysis. It has saved him a
fortune by predicting bearing wear due to the contents in the oil. Since the
cylinders, rings and bearings are all made of different metals, they can be
identified and severe wear can be predicted.
