Does this help to let the smoke out?
As an aside I once decided the problem with my Dyson vacuum was that the
electric motor brushes/carbons needed re-filing. After the re-filing I
switched
it back on and had a fairly good impression of an angle grinder at work - I
bought a new Dyson with money I didn't have later that day.
