Back in the day, manufacturers didn't have powertrain warranties. So, the towing capacity was rated at what the vehicle could tow. Now with all the 3/36 or 5/50 or 10/100 powertrain warranties, the manufacturers have to rate the towing capacity at what the vehicle can tow and still last through the warranty. Plus, with Spridgets, they had to rate them so that you could tow your friend's Spridget when it broke down. |
