motor mounts kicking my tail

OK - how do you re-mount the engine onto the front
motor mounts? I've tried every combination possible.
Leaving bolts loose...putting the mounts on the engine
first...putting the entire mount on the car
first...leaving bolts loose for added
flexibility...the entire process is kicking my tail.
What is the correct procedure? Why can't I figure out
something this simple?
