mech fuel pump

hello list,----I've got a choice of mech or electrical fuel pump when I  
build up this 1275 for the Bugeye.One block has the hole and the other does 
not.  
I'm  thinking heat and today's gas quality. Will the mech pump from the 948  
fit the 1275 and ,for that matter, do performance cams even have a lobe for the 
 mech pump? I'm trying to save a couple of bucks. I understand that some 
folks  use the fuel pump hole as a vent. I think MiniMania  sells 'em.  TIA
