e too - where the F do they come from? I am a direct
report to the president of our division, admittedly
small but still $35 million per year in sales. She
(yes, she; try that 30 years ago) makes approximately
twice the average salary of our workforce (which is
mostly blue collar machinists and assemblers), she's
been doing her job for 26 years, and puts in at least
75 hours per week. I know what she makes, if she's
making 500X more than even the lowest worker, that
worker would have to be making about 15 cents per
hour. Despite what you may think, not all (or many,
in my experience) CEOs do not spend their days
counting their money and figuring out ways to shed
jobs.
Face it - as RBH points out,the definition of middle
class has greatly changed. Our parents did not waste
money on 3000 square foot houses, cell phones, digital
cable, computers, DVD players, 2 new cars every 4
years, or any of the other crap we feel we need to be
"middle class". I can only imagine what my father
would think of people at Starbucks drinking $3 coffee
while surfing the internet on their laptops and
bitching about how tough it is today.
