I thought I might chime in again.
We bought a 2002 low miles Miata last fall to serve as my wife's
commuter car. It is way too quiet at idle; standing next to it, I'm
never sure if it's running. But from the driver's seat as I wind it
through the gears, it makes a nice throaty sound. I speculate what that
might be like with a more open exhaust, but for now, my wife prefers the
stealth mode of the current setup. Now if something were to happen to
that stock exhaust, I might need to replace it.
